What is McCoy's tricorder hand scanner made of?
I've seen plenty of models, replicas, even the real thing, and it looks to me like a telescope viewfinder. The thing is, no person or website can tell me what the original prop was made of. Was it custom built for the show? Was there inspirations from something else? Was it built from something else?
It was a salt shaker. In an early episode they wanted a futuristic looking salt shaker, then decided to use a recognizable one. One of the ones they purchased was put to good use.
