Do I need a new Master Cylinder (MC)for my 94 Accord? My pedal is low and I require greater distances to stop.
My brakes were working great. About a week ago I noticed that the red brake light would come on. I thought it was a fuse prob. with the parking brake b/c my brakes were working fine. Then a day later the ABS light came on as well. Both lights stayed on while I drove. I noticed no probs w/ brakes so continued to think fuse prob. On the 3rd day my pedal was low all of the sudden and I had to push my foot to the floor to stop the car. Once stopped, the brakes would hold--no rolling forward. The brakes worked, but I needed extra distance to ease my car to a stop. Also, if I pressed hard on the brakes, the car would veer to the Rt. At this point, I checked under the hood and found that my break fluid was below the min. line. So I added brake fluid and the red brake light and the amber ABS lights have gone out. BUT, my pedal is STILL low; I still require extra distance to stop; and my car still veers to the Rt when I press on the brakes suddenly, as opposed to 'easing' into a stop. Bad MC?
The biggest cause of the low pedal is the rear brakes need adjusting.The pulling may be a sticky front caliper that would also explain the symptoms.Someone needs to pull the wheels and do a visual on all 4 brakes.
