A vegetarian who is anemic and has an extra long, heavy period. What is wrong!?
My BF is a vegetarian who was diagnosed with anemia last year. Her mother isn't a big fan of doctors and refuses to take her back. She has stopped taking iron. She has been having these extra long really really heavy periods. (She wore 6 pairs of underwear with a pad the other day!) I am concerned. Plus homecoming is this week and she wants to wear my WHITE dress, so a quick fix would be preferable!

and 14 years old
She wears the highest absorbancy possible and hasn't quite figured out the whole tampon thing. From a medical perspective, do you think that not taking iron has had an effect on the blood thickness? Causing more flow?
She has nothing against taking the iron, it's hre mom. She won't take her back to the doctor because she doesn't think it's necessary.
Being anemic does make you bleed more, so yeah, she should be on a multivitamin AND iron pill AND B vitamin. Especially since she's vegetarian and doesn't get a ton of iron and B vitamins in her diet.
I was in the same situation. My doctor made me switch back to eating meat. I have to say, even though meat still grosses me out a bit, I do feel better when I'm eating it. Humans are omnivores and need to eat meat for the nutrients.
