Buy a cheap SX guitar pack or spend more on something better?
I want to start learning electric guitar (Btw, I'm a lefty, and no, I am not going to play a right-handed guitar, I've tried it and don't like it), so I'm contemplating whether I should buy an SX pack that includes guitar, amp, tuner, etc., or spend a little more money on something better. What do you think? Here's the SX link:

As mentioned above, a cheap starter pack is just not going to be very good. It may get you by until you are ready to upgrade but more than likely it will just frustrate you with limited sounds and poor build quality.

I would definitely suggest trying to go second hand for your first guitar. You will get a lot more bang for your buck and you can be safe in the knowledge that you will get ALL of your money back when you decide to upgrade and sell it on (or if you decide guitar isn't for you!).
Personally I don't understand why they push amps on beginners in these starter packs. These tiny little cheap amps sound awful! Couple that with the fact that you cannot play yet and you have a recipe for pissing off the neighbours and embarrassing yourself. You could probably use headphones with the amp, but that kind of defeats the purpose...
I'd suggest trying to get a little effects unit to use with headphones. That way you can practice quietly until you get better and you'll be able to try out several different sounds rather than just 'clean' or 'dirty' with the amp. Something like a Digitech RP50 could be had for peanuts these days. Or something computer based like a Line6 Toneport GX is also super cheap. I use a Toneport for practising myself.
