Can I mount my output jack on the pickguard?
I'm planning on customizing my strat, and I need to move the output jack.
I figure that the pickguard would be an easy place to put it.
I'm hoping to just mount it flat, without a jackplate. Would this be possible? Would there be any disadvantages in mounting it this way?
As long as you have the space in the cavity for the contacts and wiring, there should be no electrical reason why it would not work just fine. When selecting the location, keep in mind that it should be in a position where the output plug and cable will not interfere with operation of the controls, plus in a section of the pickguard that is well-supported; you don't want to pull out your cord and end up cracking the pickguard!
