Hi RKR
First hand, that Zak Wilde is a scaled down version of what he actually uses. We tested one at the shop and the fingerboard was garbage. we had to file the frets because they were stickout out slightly which made playing clumsy and definitely not smooth.
As for the Jackson, I use the model slightly higher than this one. The action is probably one of the fastest and smoothest fingerboard next to a Gibson Les Paul.
Actually, i love my Jackson for Heavy metal, rock. and the arpeggios and guitar sweeps respond instantly and with ease. I love the 24-fret job and the active electronics. This is my baby.
not saying that my old 1963 Les paul doesn't rock, far from it.
As for Fender Deluxe, this is a scaled down version of the original Fender Jaquar. If you like heavy rock, Led zep or other similar style such as Symphony X, Scorpio, Pantera etc.... this guitar is a no no.
It has a very clean sound but when you add distortion to it, it fails miserably.
My choice, without hesitation and not because i own one, JACKSON rocks and that is a better buy overall. And even if you decide to play smooth jazz fusion , that Jackson won't let you down. Actually,if you put the selector switch in the middle, and drop the tones a little (because it is active electonic) it sound like arel Stratocaster. You have the best of both world.
