replacing fret dots with squares or something?
i wanna get a luthier kit but the neck comes with dots on the frets, i want to replace them with squares or trapezoids is this a reletively easy process can someone tell me how? maybe a vid or how-to, thanks
It's basic inlay work--all you need do is carefully carve into the fretboard the exact shape (based on whatever you're going to use for the inlay) and gently gouge out ( with a small woodcarving chisel) the wood to a depth that will allow the insert to lie flat. Watch the grain carefully--don't let it fool you into gouging out wood outside the intended shape.
