I want new strings for my electric guitar. Its a esp ec-100qm.
I want just good playing strings, good for soloing, everything.
I play mostly 70's/80's style music but also some newer metal.
I sometimes tune down but not to often.
I was thinking of these but im not sure what size to get or anything.
9s are great for rock. Easy to bend. Easy on your fingers. Lousy for drop tuning. Most of my guitars have 9s on them. But since you are doing some drop tunings you should go with 11s.
Brands. I have never really cared about the brand name. Been playing since 1957. I care about the gauge. Never care about the brand name. I read that SRV did not care what brand he used; all he cared about was the gauge. If that is good enough for SRV, it's good enough for me. So, I bargain shop for the best deal I can find. That usually means getting a few sets at a time to get the best price. Also, I think it is a good idea to have extra B and (high) E strings. Those are the ones most likely to break.
I see both of your picks are Ernie Ball. That is a good brand. The one that is 9s is a pretty heavy set. Most of my 9s are 9 to 42. A lot slinkier than that set. But if you are doing drop tunings go with the purple colored package. That one is 11s.
