Teresa, your Model 12 was made about October of 1925 and it is one seriously NICE old gun.
Model 12s last almost forever, if you know what to do. A couple I know have a pair of them that they use for shooting Trap. Over the years of their long and happy marriage, they have fired about 300,000 shells between them. Compare this to the 3,000 that the average rifle barrel is good for. A really nice thing about a Model 12 is that you can shoot the gun until the whole thing is loose in the action, then tighten it up just by removing a screw, tightening a collar and then putting the screw back in.
If you decide to shoot this old gun (and I hope you do: shooting is a LOT of fun and a 16 doesn't kick too bad at all), you will be able to shoot it for the rest of your lifetime and leave it to your granddaughter. You might, hoever, want to put a recoil pad on the stock or else have the stock fitted to you if you are quite short; they were built for reasonably tall people.
I really don't know American gun values all that well, being that I live in Canada. Here, this gun likely would go for about $450, but US prices often are higher, especially for classy old American guns such as this one.
