How much can i get a good/decent full tube combo marshall guitar amp for?
i have a prs guitar and a jet city tube amp. i got that amp for $300 and its ok but i dont feel im getting everything out of my prs from it. i have never owned a marshall amp everyone i know swears by them and the ones ive heard sound amazing! im thinking of selling my current amp and using that money to help buy a marshall. how much can i expect to get a new one for? it doesnt have to be top of the line since i know those will run over $2000, but i just want something that will sound and play good and help me get the best out of my prs. also would it be a good idea to look for a used one? maybe on craigslist or something? i usually buy my gear at sam ash or guitar center.
Everyone swears by OLD Marshalls. New Marshalls... eh, not that great. Their product lines became really unfocused and inconsistent during the 90's, and they lost a lot of their endorsees. Recently, they started offering big bucks to get those guys back. Then they started pumping out a bunch of half-assed signature models.
Basically, Marshall's reputation has gone south. They've never been known for their combos either. If you're looking for a high quality tube combo, I recommend checking out Laney and Vox. The Laney Cub series is REALLY cool. Just old-fashioned pure tube tone, with nice low wattage amps so you can keep 'em cranked (that's when you get the best tone).
