Wich guitar should I get?
Hello, I'm planning to buy a cheap beginner guitar and stumbled upon two different models: Strat-like Model, which I like because most guitars look like this, and the SG-Model, which just looks way cooler. Both are from the same cheap brand (Jack and Danny)
Which one should I get? Does those 2 models really sound different?
Forget about the brand, as they where both "Top A" brand. Do they sound really different?
Please don't base your choice on which guitar looks "way cooler". For that matter, please don't use cost as a determining factor for selecting a beginners guitar. A cheap guitar will only make learning harder because you'll be fighting the instrument. Cheap guitars are hard on your fingers and rarely stay in tune. In the end, you'll pay more because you'll need to upgrade as soon as you realize you have a piece of junk.
There are inexpensive options for beginners, all the major brands have entry level instruments. Fender has the Squier line, and Gibson has the Epiphone line. As for the tonal difference between a SG and Strat, they are opposite ends of the spectrum. A Strat uses 3 single coil pickups and the SG uses 2 humbucker (dual coil) pickups. Single coils have a brighter sound but are prone to hiss. Humbuckers are more full sounding and less noisy...but both styles are very popular and versatile. The Strat is probably the most widely played and copied guitar around.
Good luck with whatever you choose.
