I had a Fender Jag-Stang that was in love with mostly because of the single coil and the humbucker layout, perfect mix to me.
I hated that I was stuck playing a right handed guitar, being that im left handed and could not hit all the frets. So I sold it.
Now I have an SX SJM-S62 with a p90s in the neck and bridge. I already know that I can get a humbucker to replace the p90 in the bridge, but can I put a regular old single coil in the neck?
I figure its got enough space to fit, and you would just have to mount it to the pickguard, and put a piece of wood or something underneath to support it. Then im gonna have it wired up like a Jaguar, I would expect that to be the most expensive part, because of the routing and wiring.
I dont need you to tell me that its going to be expensive, moneys not an object. Just tell me that its possible.
Of course its possible.... the wiring is relatively straightforward, as wiring goes. Remember, Ibanez wiring is HSH, so its not like this is by any means an unusual request. "Fat Strats" have HSS pup placement, too, so there's plenty of precedent for mixing single-coils and humbuckers. Me, I just hate the hum.... I suppose I could try some noiseless single-coils, ie Seymour Duncan Hot Rails or Fender Lace Sensors or an active single-coil....
If you've used the single-coil/humbucker mix before, you'll know that its very easy to have an imbalance volume-wise between single-coils and humbuckers... of course, that's what volume knobs are for, if you have a separate one for your bridge, that is.
