Is this guitar good for grunge/alt rock?
Squier Deluxe Hot Rails Stratocaster.
It seems very similar to the fender billy corgan signature strat with single humbucks in it, would this be the best choice to reproduce corgan's (smashing pumpkins) sound while on a budget?

Your choice of guitars should serve your purpose. Generally can't go wrong with a Strat. Love the Seymour Duncan Hot Rails.
I should point out to you that your guitar is only half (at best) of your sound. If you had one of Corgan's own guitars and played it through the amp your probably have, you will not get his sound. The amp is a major factor in the sound and deserves as much consideration as you give to the guitar.
However, your choice of guitars is a good one.
