How can I set the timing on my singer sewing machine?
The needle was hitting on metal underneath the bobbin. I have a drop in bobbin and there is not a factory timing mark on the needle bar. I found the screw to adjust the height of the needle bar. Now it is no longer striking metal but the needle won't pick up the bobbin thread or sew.

In my experience, sudden mistiming is a rare event, usually preceeded by loud noises and/or gigantic jams. Make sure you've got the right bobbin, the bobbin case is seated securely, and the needle is of the correct system, properly seated and oriented.
