How do I change Gibson Les Paul pickup mounting rings?
I need to know which screws need to come out first and then how do i move the pickup to the new ring and what about the pickup height adjustment screw. What do I do with that? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
you should have your local music store do this and change the strings at the same time ( the strings need to be removed to do this procedure correctly) start by removing the strings then remove the four corner screws with a precision screwdriver set them aside. Carefully lift the pick up out of the body cavity. hold the spring with one hand and loosen the adjustment screw for that side. (this is easier if you adjust both screws ALMOST all the way out first ) set spring aside. repeat procedure for other side. Remove adjustment screws from the pickup ring and place them in new ring. make sure that you correctly orient the ring the same way as the old one.(it makes a difference) Place spring on the adjustment screw between the ring and the pick up and carefully start the screw into the pickup a few turns. This is tricky and can sometimes require a helping hand to hold the spring. Repeat this procedure for the other adjustment screw and adjust both to bring the pickup back up to the same height as before. (or close to it) with new ring in place then put pickup back into the body cavity and replace the corner screws. Install new strings and tune up. To adjust the pickup height properly press the E string down at the last fret and adjust the pickups so that they are between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch away from the string. Do the same with the other E string. ROCK ON!
