a couple of questions about the wiring of my electric guitar?
first, will it work if i remove the tone potentiometers and leave only the volume pot?
and second, if i plug my guitar to the amp while the pickguard is off and touch the electrical components, will i get electrocuted? (i wanna do this to check that every component is well wired and works well ) i though about this because no current runs from the amp to the guitar but the other way around (from the guitar to the amp), and the electrical current going from the guitar to the amp is not so big. Of course i might be terribly wrong, that's why im asking, i dont wanna harm myself lol
Hello! Yes, the circuit will work fine without the tone controls, although the pickup(s) will sound a bit harsher (less resistance in the overall circuit). The way you get electrocuted from the guitar is the result of faulty grounding (usually either in your amplifier, or the AC power supply), effectively routing high voltage from the amplifier through the metal parts of your guitar (making you the lightning rod!). There is really no reason for you to be touching the components to check functionality; just get everything assembled and in place (without screwing down the pickguard assembly, if so equipped), connect the output jack to your amplifier, and lightly tap the pickups as you actuate the various controls. If one of the settings is not producing sound, it is most always just a "cold solder" joint (where the solder did not flow properly), or a broken wire. If you do not have an inexpensive multi-meter to check continuity, now is the time to make a purchase. Let me know if I can help further. Best regards, Dana
