Mandolin Pick

What is the difference between a banjo, mandolin, and ukulele?
Hello everyone,
So I'm trying to pick up an instrument that is both fun and easy. A couple of my friends have ukuleles and so I thought I might try it. However, upon looking I saw there are also banjos and mandolins, which although I realize are not necessarily similar to ukuleles, I'm not quite sure what the exact differences are. So my question really is, out of the three, what is each one like, and in addition, which would you suggest I pick up?
Thanks!
There are several differences.
Strings:
The mandolin and banjo are normally strung with "steel" strings (or a bronze alloy).
The ukulele is normally strung with nylon (or fluorocarbon) strings
Tuning:
The Ukulele (other than the baritone size) is tuned either G-C-E-A or A-D F#-B. This is the same relationship as the highest four strings on a guitar
The mandolin has eight strings of four pairs (called courses) where each pair is tuned the same. The strings are tuned a fifth apart G-G-D-D-A-A-E-E. The courses are so rapid back and forth plucking with a pick (plectrum) do not deaden each string in the process and allow the note to ring longer (sustain)
The banjo has several variations but the common bluegrass banjo has five strings and is tuned to an Open G Major tuning. The fifth string is shorter and is tuned higher than the fourth and third strings G4-D3-G3-B3-D4
Body composition:
Both mandolin and ukulele are typically made of wood.
The banjo has a drumhead type of body (a steel ring with a stretched material drumhead upon which is balanced a bridge to translate the string vibrations into the drum head.
