Whats a good cheap lap slide guitar for beginners?
I am looking to buy myself a lap slide guitar (not a steel one with pedals)...
I dont really know how to play a lap slide, but I am decent at bottleneck so I figure it cant be too difficult.
I really dont want to spend more than $150 on the guitar and have been lookign around on craigslsit but havent found anything...
Whats a good place to find these guitars? Which kind would you sugguest that is good quality but also a cheap price?
Well, I'm wondering if you mean the square necked or round necked variety? Also, are you partial to American or is an Import OK? I think you can find one at a price somewhat close to what you what you're looking for, if you're willing to be flexible. There are older one's like Ricky's and newer ones like Regal. Where I live, I have a little store in the flea market that has some older lap steels. Price? Not sure, but the good news is they have the same ones in there all the time.
I live in bluegrass country and I think the cats who play lap steel for real are snobs, just like most good pickers here.
Looks like you start getting into the import stuff around $350. I have a link to a completed eBay auction in your range. If you can find one like this, it will be, I think, horrible. You might spend as much on a new pick up and wiring as on the bad guitar itself. It's a judgment call, of course, but if you could get to a $400 budget you will get a much better guitar.
