ok so in my band we have to way to use a microphone so i'm wondering if this would work:
If I bought this: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Behringer-MIC200-Tube-Ultra-Gain-Preamp-182491-i1125225.gc
and took a 3.5mm double male cord and had the 1/4" adapter to plug into the back of the device, could I then plug the other 3.5mm jack into my amplifier Ipod input and use the preamp to control the volume of my microphone? So I can sing and play my guitar through my amp (which is safe because it's made to do that with an mp3)
I'm pretty sure this will work but if you have reason to believe it won't please let me know!

well either way i'm still going to need the adapter. I need to plug my guitar in the 1/4" so i was looking to plug the preamp into the 3.5mm jack on my guitar amp also. But I think i've got it figured out, thanks!
That may work but you would be much better off just buying a cheap three pin XLR mic and XLR mic cable:

If you use a professional XLR type mic, you won't have to use all those adapters and it will sound better. You can connect the output of the preamp to the guitar amp with a regular 1/4 inch guitar cable.
