BOSS ME-20 (Guitar FX) or just stick with the BOSS FUZZ for bass?
I am buying a whole new setup in the near future (going from a $200 Jixing piece of crap bass and amp to an Epiphone Thunderbird IV and a Peavey MAX115 amp 
) and I was in my local music store, originally looking to decide between a BOSS FUZZ or a Little Big Muff, and I was shown the offending BOSS ME-20, however I didn't pursue the idea due to the extra $200 price (being on a limited budget at the time). I now have that extra money, and I am going to try a BOSS ME-20 (guitar FX, not the bass version, cant get the latter easily :-s) but I would like other opinions, when i'm playing stuff such as Muse, Rammstein, Lamb of God, Metallica, and KORN, would this pedal be a good option or am I better off just sticking with the good old BOSS FUZZ (FZ-5 I think?)
Luckily you can go into guitar stores and test out pedals. In my own opinion, some pedals work better for the instrument that they were made for, some don't sound as good, and some are the same exact thing it just says bass or guitar on the front of it. The bottom line is, you have to be happy with the sound that comes from the effect. So, go check out a bunch of different pedals. You may get some unique sounds from some of them.
I would also advise getting individual pedals rather than a multi effects unit. The individual pedals definitely give you more options and will let you tailor your sound to what you want. Yeah, the multi effects are cheaper for more, but look at guitar players effects boards, even of your favorite artist. You will see that they have Boss, Digitech, Ibanez, MXR, and a host of other pedals on their boards. It may cost a little more, but you will enjoy them much much more.
On a side note, I have a Boss Chorus twin pedal. It has an option on it for bass or guitar. Although Im a guitar player, I let my bassist use it and he prefers it on the guitar setting (while playing bass). Also, spend your money wisely. We have all made the mistake of making decisions based on price. Guess what you do next year? Replace it... just like you are replacing your crap bass. Just think, if you got the Thunderbird right off the bat, you would have an extra $200 to spend on other stuff. Well, the same holds true with your pedals. If you buy something based on crap now, next year you will think, I should have just saved for what I really wanted/loved.
