New guitar vs new pickups?
I'm debating whether to get a fender blacktop strat, or put new seymour duncan humbuckers (SH2N and SH4) in my squier strat. The blacktop strat uses hot vintage alnico humbuckers and costs $500, and the SH2N and SH4 together cost $130. Is the guitar worth the extra money, or should I just get the new pickups?
It all depends what you're looking for as far as improvement. Honestly, I would go with the new pickups. Your tone should hold up that new strat you want. The only major difference in tone and playability you'd get with that new strat deals with the different wood which doesn't really affect your tone THAT much. The neck might be faster on that new strat as well but I find as long as I keep my cheap neck oiled down its fast enough already.
(some people might argue my point on the wood-tone thing, but unless you're a pro you're really not going to notice the difference and probably isn't worth you shelling out the extra $$ for atm)
