Bottleneck Slide for a Gibson Les Paul Studio?
I have a Gibson Les Paul Studio and I need to get a bottleneck slide. My old guitar teacher said I could use a bottleneck slide on my Les Paul. I'm not doing anything too fancy with the bottleneck slide, just some solos to a few Bon Jovi songs ("Something for the Pain" and "Superman Tonight") Which bottleneck slide should I get? and what material should it be made out of? glass, steel, brass?
Personally I'd bring your LP into a guitar store, hook it up to your amp and try out all the slides they have.
You want to have something you're most comfortable with, and the reason they offer all sorts of different types is essentially because of preference.
Some people prefer glass, some people prefer steel. The sound varies a bit too, of course.
I'm not sure what Bon Jovi's guitarist uses in those songs, but if you experiment enough you could replicate the sound pretty well, I bet.
It can be really tough to make slide sound good, so you'll have to give it some time and practice, of course.
Anyway, just choose the one that feels most natural. You can always go back.
Oh, and make sure you bring in your guitar, don't play one of theirs. You'll be happier with your purchase that way.
