Ok, I'm looking for a snare head and tom heads. I'm using a Pearl ELX fusion kit, with all stock heads. I'm looking to upgrade, probably to Remo Emperors or Ambassadors for the snare, and Remo Powerstroke 3 for the toms.
So I was looking online, and it kept mentioning snare drum "batters" and tom "batters." SO:
1. What in the world is a batter and what is the difference between it and just a standard head?
2. Do you think the heads will work well with my set? Because i heard they produce dark tones but I'm using a fusion set with 10" 12" and 14" toms, (bright) so I'm not sure if it will work.
batter heads are the rough coat ones...thicker.
the ones that go on top of the drum.
of course you know the snare head is the thinner one on he bottom, right?
try different heads at guitar center on the sets. look at them and see which kind they are.
to me they are all batter heads, except the thinner types.
you have to decide which sounds better for you.
when you start mic-ing drums is when youll hear a difference
in overtones and thickness depending on how you tune them.
i have a 1975 Pearl set. fiberglass shells. they pop and thump real clear with evans heads. they didnt have those when i got my drums, but now...bAdaSs..
now i morph the td20 kit with them with akg mics and play thru a 800wat sub and 600watt JBLs...its all ill ever need....i think...hahaha!
